Wine and more… a busy 6 months!

So it’s hard to believe the first half of 2019 has already drawn to a close and for us it was a period of change. We said a sad goodbye to Paddy (more on this later), but thankfully there is lots to be excited about in the months ahead, including the Lanzarote harvest!

Harvest

First of all, and most importantly the wine! Our harvest (the first in Europe) is very rapidly approaching and is set to commence anytime now. Yields will be around 30% to 50% lower (depending on who you speak to) than the record 2018 harvest, due to the very dry winter we experienced. Nonetheless, the 2 million or so kilograms we expect are of high quality so we should be in for a great 2019 vintage!

Craft Breweries

Elsewhere, it’s not just Wine Tours Lanzarote experiencing some change, but the craft breweries we visit as well. At Cerveza Nao, we have seen Miguel increase distribution across the Canaries, add two new fermenters, as well as an automated bottling machine earlier this month. Meanwhile, Gav and Henan opened the Los Aljibes Tap Room in Costa Teguise earlier this year, and we expect more excitement over the months ahead. All of this wouldn’t be possible without great beer and it’s amazing to see both of their businesses evolve. As always, we’ve seen some new styles brewed over the last months, and of course Dan and I never get bored of tasting!

¡Adios y buena suerte Paddy!

Our business lost Paddy in March but the transition has thankfully been as smooth as we could have hoped for. Paddy took the decision to move back to Ireland and we will miss both his impetus and humour. I would like to say a huge thanks to Paddy as he helped me personally, turn a dream of running a business into a reality. It’s just a shame it ended so soon. Happily, he leaves us all as great friends, while Dan will be helping to fill some of the void left behind. It’s very much business as normal and we will continue with our progress!

New Partnership

On that note, last week we signed a sponsorship agreement with Turismo Lanzarote. The partnership will help showcase what the Island has to offer and we look forward to helping where we can, as well as being promoted across Europe. We were also delighted to received recognition from TripAdvisor with their Certificate of Excellence. We’re thankful for all of your reviews, it´s lovely to hear the feedback and it really does help our business, so we really do appreciate it.
